Transmission and Distribution Planning

As one of the foremost experts in the area of transmission and distribution planning, E3 combines traditional utility planning experience with knowledge of the evolving utility planning environment.

E3 developed its T&D planning practice to provide additional capabilities to electricity delivery companies. Our goal is to provide the knowledge and ability to incorporate E3's approach into existing planning methods to ensure the benefits from our analysis accrue long after project completion.

We provide the methodology and tools to:

  • design and evaluate the impact of targeted rates in your planning

  • evaluate and implement the RFP process for load reduction or targeted generation

  • improve the capital budgeting process

  • incorporate risk analysis into the investment decision process

  • evaluate the economics of distributed generation

Our approach is designed to address the emerging challenges our clients face, including:

  • Pressure to reduce rates
  • Balancing costs and reliability
  • Increased regulatory scrutiny
  • Environmental sensitivity
  • New facility permitting
  • Reduced staffing
  • New performance risks from performance-based ratemaking
  • Increased asset risk from DG

Training

We provide training to utilities in the emerging aspects of the transmission and distribution planning practice. For example, we have a 3-day seminar "Integration of Distributed Generation into T&D Planning" that we are teaching in conjunction with Electrotek Concepts.
