Dr. Patricia Levi specializes in electricity system modeling, energy storage, and market design. She brings experience spanning the technical and policy dimensions of the energy sector, with domain expertise in electricity market design, resource adequacy, energy storage, distributed energy resources, computational modeling, and regulatory processes. Prior to joining E3, Patricia worked at a long-duration energy storage company, where she led research and regulatory filings on the grid value of iron-air battery storage, managed product direction for an in-house capacity expansion model, and engaged directly with utility IRP teams and consulting firms across the country. Earlier in her career, she served as a Research Fellow at the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), conducted energy access research at the MIT Energy Initiative, and evaluated clean energy financing arrangements at the Climate Policy Initiative. She also founded and chaired the Macro-Energy Systems Initiative, a national academic organization convening interdisciplinary researchers studying large-scale energy systems. In her doctoral dissertation, Patricia examined uncertainty and market design for sustainable electricity systems.

Patricia grew up exploring the outdoors and was motivated to protect the environment from a young age. She appreciates that her work in energy system modeling gives her a way to enjoy interesting technical and policy challenges while supporting the greater good.

When not at work, Patricia can usually be found skiing, biking, or hiking through California’s parks and beyond. She also enjoys live music, cooking, and ceramics.
