Emily Zhao is an Associate in E3’s Asset Valuation and Markets practice, where she supports electricity market analysis, large load forecasting, and distributed energy resource planning. She brings a strong background in statistical modeling, policy research, and clean energy analytics, with a focus on using data-driven insights to inform investment and regulatory decisions.
Before joining E3, Emily completed a Fulbright research fellowship at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia, where she worked on demand response modeling and supported the development of an open-source version of the Australian Energy Market Operator’s Integrated System Plan. She holds a B.S. in Statistics and a B.A. in Environmental Sciences and Policy from Duke University, where she also conducted energy justice research and held internships in consulting, venture capital, and nonprofit energy organizations.
Ever since watching An Inconvenient Truth in middle school, Emily has been fascinated by the idea that adopting renewable energy could be a superpower against climate change. She’s driven by, on one hand, the urgency of the climate crisis, but also the promise of building a more equitable, sustainable future. Outside of work, Emily enjoys hiking, hosting board game nights, and playing pickleball.
