Ben Rankin brings over 20 years of experience in electric utility consulting, with a focus on distribution technology and planning. Ben has provided engineering support, technical assessments, and project development and planning for utilities undertaking major grid modernization initiatives including advanced distribution management systems (ADMS), distributed energy resource management systems (DERMS), advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), and distribution automation. His work has helped utilities move from strategic planning through implementation and go-live, translating technology investments into real operational outcomes.

Ben’s interest in energy grew from a background in electrical and systems engineering work, where it quickly became clear that the electric grid represents one of the most consequential infrastructure challenges of our time. He is energized by the opportunity to help utilities navigate that challenge; combining the technical complexity of integrating smart grid technologies with the real operational and business problems utilities face every day. Modernizing the grid is hard work, but Ben sees it as some of the most important work the industry can do.

Outside of work, Ben enjoys hiking in the Smoky Mountains and board gaming.
