Dave Maggio specializes in wholesale electricity market design, resource integration, and operating reserve policy. Prior to joining E3, Dave spent nearly two decades at the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, where he developed deep expertise in the design and administration of one of the most complex wholesale electricity markets in the world. At ERCOT, he advised executive leadership and the Public Utility Commission of Texas on wholesale market design and implementation and led the development of real-time co-optimization of energy and ancillary services. Dave was also heavily involved in stakeholder engagement efforts, leading discussions on real-time market design, reliability unit commitment, and transmission congestion, as well as overseeing the congestion revenue rights market. Throughout his tenure, he was at the forefront of integrating emerging grid resources into the ERCOT market, including battery storage, distributed energy resources, and large flexible loads.

Dave’s goal is identifying practical solutions to the multifaceted challenges facing the electric grid, both for today and in the years to come. He is motivated by finding ways to make complicated topics understandable, engaging new people in electric grid design and allowing policymakers and stakeholders to make more informed decisions.

Outside of work, Dave enjoys cooking and the outdoors, particularly running and hiking. He otherwise keeps busy with his wife, young daughter, and puppy.
